Friday's Last Word: Veeam CEO Ratmir Timashev
Veeam CEO Ratmir Timashev went from being a graduate student to a CEO of his own startup and then transitioned into the role of CEO at Veeam, a software company that prides itself on modern data protection. What was Veeam’s last big idea? Where did Timashev go to graduate school? Scroll through our slideshow for the answers, along with other fun facts.
TIMASHEV: Paul McCartney in 2011.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Some of us aren’t old enough to remember when Sir Paul dominated the pop charts. But I know my own editor is a huge fan.
TIMASHEV: Lincoln.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Should have won Best Picture, but who actually votes for the Oscars?
TIMASHEV: In 1996, when I went from being a graduate student at Ohio State to CEO of my startup, Aelita Software.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: My girlfriend and I tried following Ohio State basketball. We got as far as purchasing team merchandise.
TIMASHEV: Currently, I like The Big Bang Theory. Veeam is a company made up of virtualization nerds, so it’s nice to see a sitcom about our kind of people. My all-time favorite, though is Seinfeld, which I think needs no explanation.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: We are big Seinfeld fans at Nine Lives Media. By the way, I’m not sure if I believe the second spitter theory. I wish the medias would find out the truth from Hernandez.
TIMASHEV: The big idea for us right now is modern data protection, which we believe needs to be specifically built for virtualization and cloud. For too long, backup has been plagued by missing capabilities, excessive complexity and high costs. Virtualization gives the enterprise a way to move toward modern data protection that is powerful, easy-to-use and affordable. Taking advantage of the cloud is the next step after virtualization toward.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: On a more serious note: Veeam sounds like it’s ahead of the curve.
TIMASHEV: iPad.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: This question may have to be altered in the future. I’m getting bored of seeing pictures of iPads, aren’t you? I almost added in a random picture to spice this slide up a bit.
TIMASHEV: Some games for my kids’ iPad.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Sounds like mobile application management, family style.
TIMASHEV: Salesforce.com. I use this every day at work. iTunes, I use every day at home.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Our own sales team is on Salesforce.com. As for me, I’m downloading Luke Bryan’s latest album off of iTunes at the moment.
