At VMWare Partner Exchange 2012, VMware unveiled new partner specializations focused on — you guessed it — the cloud. The VAR Guy gave us a cursory glance, but here’s the deep dive on how VMware’s new programs can help “guide” and educate partners in serving the ever-growing ranks of cloud-based SMBs. Let’s take a look…

The new VMWare partner specializations are as follows:

  • Virtualization of Business-Critical Applications : No surprise here, VMware wants its partners to virtualize more solutions, and with this certification, partners can specialize in migrating Exchange, SQL, SAP and even Oracle systems over to a virtualized infrastructure.

  • Infrastructure as a Service: If hybrid cloud solutions are what customers are demanding, VMWare can help partners expand that marketplace demand and “accelerate partner delivery” of the product.

  • Management: Automation is something we’re seeing a lot of in the data center, and the new Management specialization will focus on how cloud and virtualization environments can be maintained using vCenter Operations Management Suite.

VMware’s advantage+ and Solutions Reward programs now will allow partners to double their existing incentives, plus there are new rebates and bonuses for completing competencies. For example, VMware will give “partners with solution competencies … a first-time sale bonus rebate when they sell a new solution outside the [i]nfrastructure.”  VMware also will offer demand-creation tools and training videos to help partners streamline the deployment of virtualization infrastructures for SMBs. This includes the VMware Solution Exchange, a web portal that can help partners piece together solutions thanks to vetted online examples and interpartner collaboration.

We’ll keep our virtual eyes and ears open as VMware Partner Exchange 2012 continues the rest of this week.
