CA Data Management Business General Manager Mike Crest says this decision will have no impact on the company's broader partner business.

CA Technologies (CA) is divesting its arcserve data protection business to Marlin Equity Partners. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Islandia, New York-based IT software company this week said its arcserve business activity will now be recognized as a “discontinued operation.”

The arcserve product family is made up of several solutions, including arcserve Backup, arcserve D2D, arcserve Replication and arcserve High Availability.

CA Data Management Business General Manager Mike Crest told MSPmentor that this decision will have “little to no impact to CA’s broader partner business.”

“In fact, we are committed to growing CA’s global partner ecosystem, which is a key asset and critically important to our overall strategy,” he said. “For FY15, we have created an enablement methodology and process to help partners focus and grow their business.”

CA shook-up the managed services market in March 2010 after acquiring Nimsoft, a SaaS-based IT monitoring and service desk software and services company.

When asked about the possibility of CA selling Nimsoft or any other MSP-related business, Crest said: “We cannot comment on any specific undisclosed or possible future actions.”

“We regularly evaluate our portfolio to ensure fit and contribution to strategic direction,” he said. “When assets do not contribute to strategy, we have to consider divestiture.”

CA expects the transaction to close in the second quarter of fiscal year 2015.
