Friday's Last Word: Inktank CEO Bryan Bogensberger
Inktank CEO Bryan Bogensberger can't get finish Marc Benioff's book because of long hours with his startup, but has enough time to go to Costa Rica. Interested in knowing more?
Inktank CEO Bryan Bogensberger manages and builds businesses and teams. He has built a SaaS company, built and sold a PaaS company, and for the past several years landed squarely in the IaaS world, working as a senior executive with both Joyent, Inc. and DreamHost. What’s his opinion on Adam Levine’s audience? Which book will he never get to the end of? We’ll provide you with the details, plus some other secrets.
BOGENSBERGER: Maroon 5 at the Citrix Synergy conference. Poor Levine. He never saw an audience made up of so many men.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: A CEO more sarcastic than me? This is news breaking.
BOGENSBERGER: This Is The End, a terrible movie made up of four to five of the most overrated comedians of our time.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Hmm … I must disagree with the first part of your statement.
BOGENSBERGER: VMworld. Tuesday at VMworld is becoming one of the most efficient days for young companies like Inktank to meet up with existing and prospective financial partners. Next year we will exhibit and bring open source, software defined storage into their proprietary world.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: VMworld rocked the house this year with more than 21,000 attendees.
BOGENSBERGER: When I watch TV I usually watch a sporting event — based on almost any sport on the planet. I love the NFL, especially when the Steelers win. As far as TV shows go, The League is good. The little I have seen of Newsroom was also very good.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Steelers? Giants fan here … even though I’d rather not disclose that at this time.
BOGENSBERGER: Not a lot of time in my startup life for reading more than industry news, etc. When I have picked up a book lately it usually pertained to business. Sad but true. I am halfway through Behind the Cloud, and I doubt I will see the second half.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Most books go that way. I’m sure many of us have read more beginnings than endings.
BOGENSBERGER: A Thunderbolt Display. It is just so much better than my six-year-old screen I replaced, which slightly eases the pain of working nights and weekends from home.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: If it works, it works.
BOGENSBERGER: Amazon, to make sure I had the title of Benioff’s book correct.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Best answer that I’ve ever received for a question.
BOGENSBERGER: A hillside villa 15 minutes outside of Tamarindo, Costa Rica. After the last couple of intense and incredibly exciting years of putting together the company’s framework, launching and building Inktank (at a 110 miles per hour), I really needed a week to “completely” shut down. This beautifully architected, secluded home was perfect — provided you don’t mind a snake, a couple scorpions, a couple tarantulas or several unknown, very large critters occasionally stopping by unannounced. I didn’t mind and I made the most of the hammock.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: I believe your career as a travel agent would be short lived, for the end of your answer may turn many people away.
