Whether you are looking for an information technology job or looking to hire a smart, dependable IT professional, the task always seems to be a tough one. (That’s why MSPmentor offers the MSPmentor IT Careers Job Board here. Post a job or find a job.) The most recent report from IT careers technology hub Dice reveals some of the top skills that employers are currently looking for in new hires. Whether you are a seasoned professional or just starting out, dabbling in these areas may increase your chances of being hired. And if you are an employer, take a look at these sought after skills. If you are looking for professionals with these skills, too, you may have to fight harder to win top candidates. The following are the top three skills IT employers are looking for:
Java developers
mobile developers
.NET developers and software developers.
How does Dice account for the skills gap? In cases like mobile developers, the market is growing faster than the pool of skilled workers. That means if you are an IT pro who can quickly come up to speed with mobile technology, you’re in a good position.
Dice also says that technology hiring managers are looking for “journeymen, not apprentices” – or those with two to five years in the workforce. After that level of experience the next highest ranked are those with six to 10 years of experience. “Competition is fierce when companies are all chasing the same talent, making positions hard to fill.”
That’s yet another reason to take advantage of the MSPmentor job board which is populated by MSPs and those who work for MSPs rather than the entire larger universe of IT employers and professionals. Especially as we get to the end of those slow summer days and ramp up for the fall and back-to-school season, now’s the time to get your plans nailed down.
