Java PaaS Jelastic Adds 'Tech All-Stars' to Adviser Roster
October 24, 2011
Jelastic, another entrant in the quickly growing Java platform-as-a-service (PaaS) marketplace, has announced the addition of so-called “Tech All-Stars” to its roster of cloud advisers. Jelastics adviser base now includes the founder of My SQL AB and the MariaDB database server, the creator of the Groovy++ Java programming language, and the developer of the Nginx web server.
Before we go in for a deeper look at this announcement, I just wanted to go over Jelastic’s value proposition. Like Cumulogic and Cloudbees, Jelastic is built around enabling developers to run and scale Java apps in the cloud with no need for specific APIs or modifications of any kind. Unlike those two, Jelastic is promoting itself as specifically hosting provider-friendly.
According to the press release, Jelastic’s new advisers are:
Igor Sysoev, who developed the Nginx web server, which purportedly powers 43 million websites, including top traffic-getters Facebook and Groupon.
Alex Tkachman, who headed up development of the Groovy++ Java programming language, and remains a major voice in open source.
Soeren von Varchmin, a 10-year industry veteran with experience in business development and service providers for companies including Parallels.
Michael “Monty” Widenius, lead developer on the MySQL project and founder of the MariaDB database server project.
That’s a pretty solid lineup of programming talent and open source vision. But will they be able to lead Jelastic to cloud success? Keep watching TalkinCloud for more updates.
