Chris Sullivan, vice president for Global Channels and Alliances, VCE
Sullivan: I was a laborer for a landscaping company; the long hard days of physical work helped develop the work ethic I rely on today.
The VAR Guy says: We bet working all day in the hot sun also taught you to appreciate the wonders of air conditioning!
Sullivan: I have owned some great cars in my life, but at this point my current dream car isn’t a car at all—it’s a Ford F-250 Platinum truck.
The VAR Guy says: A very nice choice. A truck like this is both stylish and rugged enough to tow whatever you like, and fun to drive through uneven terrain to boot.
Sullivan: My wife and I were blessed to spend time in Costa Rica earlier this year. We enjoyed the culture, cuisine and great fishing the country provides … can’t wait to go back!
The VAR Guy says: That sounds like a wonderful vacation! We hope you also got to visit San Jose while you were there.
Sullivan: “This Kind of War,” by T.R. Fehrenbach. The book recounts the Korean War from the perspective of those who actually fought it. As a former Infantry Officer in the United States Marine Corps, I find the book interesting and inspiring.
The VAR Guy says: This reminds us of "Citizen Soldiers," by Stephen Ambrose, another incredibly intense chronicle of American troops during WWII, which is another must-read for history buffs. Consider this one added to our ever-expanding reading list.
Sullivan: Tuna fishing rods, reels & lures. My son and I are currently immersing ourselves in the sport of offshore fishing.
The VAR Guy says: There's nothing better for father/son bonding than taking a case of beer out on a boat and fishing the afternoon away.
Sullivan: "House of Cards"—I have to stop myself from binge-watching on Netflix. My wife and I watch a full season in about three days.
The VAR Guy says: Wow, now that’s what I call binge-watching! Kevin Spacey’s character makes it oh-so-easy to get lost in the world of "House of Cards"—Netflix needs to hurry up with the next season already.
Sullivan: I wanted to be a construction worker—I spent a few summers working for a local builder and really enjoyed seeing the product of our combined efforts at the end of each day and project.
The VAR Guy says: That's a pretty neat way to look at construction work, since most people focus more on the hard manual labor aspect and less on the collaborative nature of the job. We bet this experience also made you pretty handy around the house!
Sullivan: "Miracle," the film about the 1980 US Men’s Hockey Team. My son and I are always inspired by the leadership of Coach Brooks, and the team’s ability to accomplish something great when others believed it wasn’t possible. It is a favorite in my house (we have seen it over 50 times!).
The VAR Guy says: At this point we bet you can recite whole scenes from the movie verbatim! "Miracle" is definitely one of the most inspiring underdog stories ever, and just a terrific film to boot. Go team USA!
