Microsoft Reveals 2022 Partner of the Year Awards
Microsoft will showcase the winners and finalists at its annual Inspire partner event later this month.

Ernst & Young (EY) and Microsoft helped Australian bank Westpac automate the processing of unstructured documents using Azure AI Services. The intelligent automation capability developed by EY and Microsoft saves Westpac 35,000 full-time equivalent days per year through intelligent automation. EY is an Advanced Specialized partner in both Azure AI and Azure Analytics. In February, Westpac and Microsoft announced a five-year partnership to expand the bank’s digital and hybrid cloud strategy.

Microsoft recognized Wipro for a client described as a “world leader in medical technology” based in the U.S. Using Azure Analytics, Wipro helped the customer save 30% on capital expenditures and has reduced warehouse build time by 60%, while giving the company a more scalable and reliable solution.

NTT Data, which boasts a formidable practice focused on building cloud-native applications on Microsoft’s various Azure platforms, completed a complex advanced cloud-native app development project in Peru for a customer with hyperscale business requirements. The solution utilized multiple component layers that are integrated with open APIs. NTT helped the customer build a data lake integrated with open-source tools, hosted on Microsoft’s Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), among other Microsoft cloud services.

ICONICS, which provides visualization, analytics and mobile software solutions for energy, manufacturing and industrial-building automation applications, has an IoT platform called IoTWorX, designed to reduce energy costs and enable manufacturing efficiencies. IoTWorX is one of the provider’s three IP co-cell prioritized solutions designed for smart building and industrial IoT projects. It runs Microsoft IoT technology at the edge, in the Azure cloud, and it integrates with Dynamics 365 and Microsoft Teams for work order management. The solution is designed to alert customers of conditions poised to degrade performance using Azure IoT Edge and IoT Hub.

3Cloud, a technical services provider, helped a leading telemedicine provider in the U.S. migrate its data centers, applications and data estate from a different cloud provider to Microsoft Azure. The migration helped the customer reduce its costs, while also helping grow revenues, according to 3Cloud and Microsoft.

Altoura built a platform to create connected 3-D workflows designed to improve frontline worker training and productivity for those transitioning from traditional environments to 3-D. It is built on Azure and configured for Microsoft’s HoloLens 2 mixed reality headset. It provides single sign-on, supports Microsoft Power Apps and integrates with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides to enable virtual training of frontline workers.

Tigera added containerization and Kubernetes support to its Calico open-source observability and security product. Microsoft worked with Tigera to integrate the tool with Azure and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). Calico lets customers secure communications between containers and third-party APIs using zero trust security principles. The observability component, designed for multicluster, multicloud and hybrid environments, is designed to detect threats and maintain continuous compliance.

Microsoft recognized Abnormal Security for its “fast-moving, born-in-the-cloud ISV offering.” Abnormal Security’s SaaS solution is designed to extend Microsoft Defender for Office 365. Its Integrated Cloud Email Security (ICES) solution uses Azure AI and Machine Learning to detect phishing and email fraud using behavior analysis, which is designed to prevent against socially engineered attacks like supply chain compromise, executive impersonation, account takeover and invoice fraud. It is designed to replace secure email gateways.

Tata Consulting Services (TCS), a Microsoft SAP on Azure Advanced Specialized partner, simplified its large and complex SAP and non-SAP estates on Microsoft Azure, resulting in the consolidation of over 45 data centers. Microsoft said this digital transformation effort resulted in more efficient operations, an improved supply and reduced the total cost of ownership by with 12%.

Microsoft identified Bam Boom as a partner that has disrupted traditional professional services by offering fixed-price, fixed-scope and fixed-timeline technology for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). Bam Boom has collaborated with other partners including Microsoft Indirect Providers and their Modern Work resellers when deploying Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Visionet won this category for its Catapult, which it has integrated into its direct-to-consumer (D2C) multitier e-commerce solution with Dynamics 365 Commerce. According to Visionet’s announcement, the company posted significant growth with consistent customer success and new customer additions.

Just as with the Dynamics 365 Customer Insights and Marketing category that it won, the Accenture-Avanade-Microsoft Alliance had a big year with Dynamics 365 Customer Service and Field Service. Its strong growth came from new customer adds, which included the addition of multiple Fortune 100 customers.

Microsoft didn’t initially specify why KPMG is its Dynamics 365 Finance partner of the year other than to note the accounting giant’s commitment to Microsoft Business Applications. However, the accounting and business consulting giant last week announced that it has collaborated with Microsoft to create three KPMG Digital Gateways that run in Azure solution designed to provide real-time views of tax and finance data that can help predict tax liabilities. The three applications include Tax Advance, Data Factory and Connected Modeling, all of which KPMG said are designed to help transform tax and finance functions In late 2019, KPMG announced a five-year partnership with Microsoft to create cloud-based tax auditing services using digital technology.

Microsoft said Ernst & Young (EY) was among the top Dynamics 365 Sales partners based on new revenue generated and added customers. The award is also for the “rapid progress” EY made in the building of its Dynamics 365 Sales practice, according to Microsoft.

Microsoft said it gave Hitachi the award for its technical skills and industry expertise. Hitachi Solutions America president and global COO said in a statement: “With the challenges of the last few years, our main focus has been to support our customers as they work through strategies to ensure their supply chains can mitigate the complexities of accelerated growth, shortages and increased demands.”

Sogeti, part of Capgemini, used Microsoft’s Power Apps for various enterprise customers to rapidly build solutions using citizen development, according to Microsoft. Sogeti has led numerous hackathons; offered policy guidance, user training and best practices; and has created innovative applications, Microsoft added.

Ernst & Young (EY) has developed enhanced customer and employee experiences using Power Automate and Power Platform capabilities, enabling process automation and digitization for numerous clients. The solutions for EY clients have helped reduce paper-driven processes by digitizing information and have enabled easier access to data with chat bots, according to Microsoft. EY has also built “robust app catalogs” for its clients to manage their apps and enabling more self-service access to them.

Ernst & Young and Microsoft are longtime partners but formed the EY Microsoft Services Group in late 2020 focused on helping clients modernize their back offices with Microsoft cloud offerings and user experiences. The two companies expanded that partnership last summer, committing to create solutions across industries that would benefit from digital transformation at scale. That includes creating a data fabric that can help customers mine enterprise information and transforming regulated industries with cloud-based, trusted platforms. Microsoft said the award recognizes various “transformative solutions” including EY’s Global Tax Platform and EY Virtual and Inventory Optimization. Microsoft also noted that EY has committed to Microsoft’s Cloud for Industry strategy and has built solutions across Clouds for Financial Services (Nexus for Banking and Insurance), Health (Smart Health Analytics) and Sustainability (Decarbonization Platform).

Confluent has embraced the Microsoft commercial marketplace as a first-party sales channel in its cloud-first, go-to-market strategy, according to Microsoft. Confluent, was founded by the creators of the open-source Apache Kafka distributed, event-streaming messaging queue. It has become widely implemented among the largest of enterprises who use Azure services like CosmosDB, Azure Synapse and Azure Databricks. It’s become critical also because Confluent connects with open-source solutions from other ISVs. Confluent says over 60% of its business is now transacted through the commercial marketplace.

Content+Cloud is an MSP and professional services provider that offers business change consulting, with a focus on Office 365, architectures based on SharePoint, Power Platform, business change and cybersecurity focused on identity, access and management (IAM). Microsoft said Content+Cloud has been successful in helping track customer experience through multitouch, shifting to modern work, user experience and secure digital workplaces.
SAS Institute and Microsoft are longtime partners that have most recently integrated SAS Analytics and AI with Azure, Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365 and Power Platform. The latest solutions have helped retail customers perform forecasts faster and more accurately and financial services clients to offer better customer service, for example by accelerating loan processing time and delivering more accurate information.

TCS Microsoft Business Unit Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) claims it had a “breakout year” via its Microsoft partnership, by delivering key transformation projects on the Microsoft Cloud. The dedicated TCS-Microsoft business includes over 30,000 Microsoft Certified Associates focused on digital workplace transformation and employee experience. TCS was a launch partner Microsoft’s new industry clouds for retail and financial services.

Microsoft Inspire conference, the annual gathering of the company’s global partner ecosystem, will take place July 19-20. For the third consecutive year, Microsoft Inspire will be a digital event.
While Inspire is where partners hear news from the company as it embarks on a new fiscal year, Microsoft also uses it to celebrate the successes of its partners. Microsoft does that by showcasing the annual winners of its Partner of the Year Awards.
The company has revealed this year’s winners and finalists in each category. The six categories are Azure, business applications, business excellence, modern work, social Impact, and the newest one, security. Each category includes numerous subcategories and specialties.
As usual, Microsoft also broke out awards for countries and vertical industries. But given the scope of the five core categories, we are showcasing those winners and finalists.
