SolarWinds, the IT management software provider, has relaunched version 5.0 of its server and application monitor (SAM) solution for managed services providers. Fresh off of its DameWare and EminentWare acquisitions, SolarWinds has now switched its focus over to its SAM solution.

Here’s a look at the new capabilities that MSPs will now get from SAM.

  • Multi-vendor server hardware monitoring from a single window

  • New ways of collecting hardware health information

  • A real-time process explorer

  • Support for IPv6

  • Over 30 new server and application monitoring updates

According to SolarWinds VP of of Product Management Denny LeCompte, all of the additions SolarWinds made to SAM came from customer requests. The IT management provider reviewed its business customer requests from Thwach, SolarWinds’ online community. LeCompte said that most of the requests from IT pros centered around ways to do their jobs faster and easier, and that’s exactly what SolarWinds is trying to provide through these latest SAM upgrades.

SAM now comes out-of-the-box with more templates that give IT teams best practices information such as which statistics they really should monitor and why. SAM 5.0 also carries several business services views and alerts that IT admins can configure to their individual business needs in order to perform faster root-cause analysis.

Overall, SolarWinds is offering a more comprehensive monitoring solution for all of its customers, from enterprises to SMBs. And the company is trying to make these improvements while keeping the price low enough to still serve its SMB customer base. The SolarWinds SAM 5.0 software solution starts at $2,495.
