Tekelec has upgraded its Integrated Applications Solutions (IAS), which monitors networks for the business intelligence to perform revenue assurance and performance management. The newly souped up IAS features improved modularity, increased redundancy, improved performance and better reliability, to prepare for the migration to IMS, Tekelec said.
The signaling stream is going to increase a hundred-fold when we get to IMS, explained Travis Russell, Tekelecs senior manager of product marketing. We wanted to make sure we had a platform that can support that kind of scale.
The IAS architecture now consolidates the data correlation, mediation and databasing into a cluster of servers to reduce the gear footprint for operators and offer economies of scale.
It can also provide valuable insight into customer behavior.
A device manager can tell an operator what device is being used, say a television, explains Russell. But we can tap into a video stream and see what theyre watching and what they click off of. Theres a movement to base everything on SIP, so theres not as much need to rely on the billing system for revenue assurance and other insights.
