12 Days of Christmas with a Sales Rep

It’s become an annual tradition for me to write a parody of a holiday favorite poem or song. This year’s pick is “12 Days of Christmas.” Like the song that repeats itself over and over, sometimes clients feel that their sales reps will never “go away.” Of course, what clients don’t know is that a big piece of our jobs is to find ways to stay in front of them so they don’t forget us. Consider these 12 creative, if not comical, ways to do just that, to the tune of the timeless Christmas carol.

  • On the first day of Christmas my persevering sales rep gave to me: 1 Discount so I don’t have to fight for extra budget.

  • On the second day of Christmas my persevering sales rep gave to me: 2 Testimonial Requests to highlight our good work together.

  • On the third day of Christmas my persevering sales rep gave to me: 3 Selfies for my cell phone, laptop and TV screen savers.

  • On the fourth day of Christmas my persevering sales rep gave to me: 4 Quarterly Reviews for face-time with our executive team.

  • On the fifth day of Christmas my persevering sales rep gave to me: 5 Free Trials to test solutions I don’t need but he thinks I should.

  • On the sixth day of Christmas my persevering sales rep gave to me: 6 Sales Proposals in hopes I’ll buy one more thing this year.

  • On the seventh day of Christmas my persevering sales rep gave to me: 7 Referral Requests to pester my respected colleagues.

  • On the eighth day of Christmas my persevering sales rep gave to me: 8 Marketing Brochures to be sure I know the full breadth of his offerings.

  • On the ninth day of Christmas my persevering sales rep gave to me: 9 Starbucks and bagels to entice me into longer meetings.

  • On the 10th day of Christmas my persevering sales rep gave to me: 10 Trinkets to gather dust on my desk lest I forget his company’s name.

  • On the 11th day of Christmas my persevering sales rep gave to me: 11 Tweets to shout from the hills that we finally purchased from him.

  • On the 12th day of Christmas my persevering sales rep gave to me: 12 Sales Calls in the New Year to buy more stuff.

May all your prospects and clients enjoy your sales efforts just as much as this client does his persevering sales rep. Have a wonderful holiday season and wildly successful new sales year!
