Cloud.com, which provides an open source platform for launching public or private clouds, has partnered with Tokyo-based cloud computing consulting agency Kumoya, Inc. Together, Cloud.com and Kumoya will offer the CloudStack platform to the Japanese IT channel.

According to the joint Cloud.com/Kumoya press release, the partnership is designed to take advantage of the momentum the cloud has been experiencing in the Japanese IT world – they go so far as to call it the fastest-growing segment in the regional market.

To that end – Yosuke Shindo, CEO of Kumoya, Inc., said in a prepared statement:

“There is a tremendous amount of interest and excitement around cloud computing technologies in Japan, yet there is a wide gap between what is offered today in Japan and what is needed to deliver a truly automated cloud environment. We believe that CloudStack and the Cloud Portal architecture effectively resolve this gap. With Cloud.com’s tremendous success in helping companies build large scale cloud environments, we are excited to be representing them in Japan.”

Cloud.com itself is known for working with the MSP community as well as cloud systems integrators and VARs, and extending their channel to Asian markets — where cloud companies like Eucalyptus Systems have been making moves — makes perfect sense.

And for their part, Kumoya has experience with US-based cloud developers and open source both, as they’re already partners with RightScale.
