Desktone, tuCloud Partner on Cloud VDI
March 12, 2012
Desktone, the desktop as a service (DaaS) provider, has partnered with tuCloud, a managed and hosted virtual desktop provider, to offer virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) in cloud environments.
The goal for tuCloud is to provide its international business customers with a more cost-effective VDI in the cloud. In order to do so, the cloud managed services provider will use the Deskton DaaS platform to give its customers a cloud-hosted virtual desktop solution that can more easily scale to their specific business needs. So tuCloud will migrate from its traditional VDI platform to the new DaaS solution from Desktone.
Beginning in April, tuCloud will run its Desktops on Demand service on Desktone’s multi-tenant cloud platform for all of its customers in the U.K. and the United States. Both companies say that the platform will give tuCloud customers an easier and cheaper way to managed, deploy and scale virtual desktops in the cloud. tuCloud will extend Desktone’s DaaS platform to its customers in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East later this year.
“Service providers are looking for a true desktop as a service solution and they’re finding that traditional VDI can’t provide the flexibility, performance or ROI they require,” Desktone CEO Peter McKay said in a prepared statement. “These technologies, which were built for on-premise deployments, cannot just be moved to a cloud service delivery model. Even VDI solutions that purport to work out-of-the-box still require tremendous effort and time to get up and running, as well as to support.”
The tuCloud deal marks the fourth VDI in the cloud deal that Desktone has signed in 2012. The company already inked partnerships with Paladin Building Services, Quest Software and NaviSite during the first two months of the year. Still, its partnership with tuCloud could prove to be the most valuable one to date, as tuCloud’s international customer base gives Desktone an ideal opportunity to strengthen its brand on the international stage.
