EarthLink (NASDAQ: ELNK) continues to transform from an ISP to a cloud services provider (CSP). The latest move includes relationships with VMware (NYSE: VMW), Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Zimbra, the open source email system that VMware owns.

EarthLink’s cloud strategy includes the:

  • Cloud Launch Pad, allowing customers to extend their virtualized on-premises systems into EarthLink’s cloud.

  • Cloud Entry Bundle, for customers that have not virtualized their systems yet but want the benefits of hosted Microsoft Exchange 2010 and Hosted SharePoint.

  • Secure Email Bundle leveragesZimbra, antivirus, antispam, email archive, email encryption, secure email branded portal and secure file transfer portal. It’s designed for customers that are concerned about HIPAA, corporate compliance and government mandates.

Meanwhile, EarthLink signed a range of channel partners in March 2012, and EarthLink partnered with IndependenceIT to promote hosted desktops.

EarthLink’s cloud and managed services push shifted into high-gear in mid-2011, when the company promoted Brian Fink into the post of executive VP of managed services — where he also promotes the EarthLink Cloud to partners and customers.
