Google Cloud has opened a new data center region in Milan. The world’s third-largest public cloud provider now reaches 34 regions and 103 zones. All in all, that means serving more than 200 countries and territories. Google Cloud cites an economic impact report from the University of Turin that shows that Google Cloud’s footprint in Italy could generate up to €3.3 billion. The vendor’s expansion also could support up to 65,000 new jobs by 2025, according to the study.
In addition, Oracle Cloud has opened a second cloud region in France, delivering public cloud services. Oracle made the announcement on June 20. The new region is in La Courneuve, Paris. Oracle Cloud already reaches more than 10 regions in Europe.
The more regions cloud providers open, the more businesses and organizations they reach.
Google Cloud has added Anthos, its on-premises cloud platform, to Google Distributed Cloud.
The company debuted the latter last year as competition to Microsoft Azure Stack and AWS Outposts.
The Anthos capabilities available in Google Distributed Cloud right now apply to VMware vSphere and Anthos bare-metal services.
Also, Google Cloud is now referring to Anthos as on-premises GDC Virtual.
Organizations don’t always opt for strict public cloud. They need alternatives for reasons related to compliance, privacy and confidentiality. As a result, the public cloud providers — anxious to compete for business that might otherwise go to IBM Cloud, VMware Cloud or a similar vendor — have in recent years brought private cloud platforms to their portfolios.
SADA, the Google Cloud-only managed service provider, has added another piece to its POWER portfolio.
The company now helps enterprises design Google Workspace solutions through the POWERON Google Workspace Foundation. The offering delivers guidance from a dedicated team of SADA deployment engineers, change managers and product managers.
POWERON comes as part of SADA’s POWER product line, launched in January. SADA says the portfolio is designed to mirror the customer journey when integrating Google Cloud.
Last week, Google Cloud said it had named SADA its North America sales partner of the year.
Matillion, an enterprise cloud data integration provider, has landed an investment from the venture capital arm of Snowflake.
Matillion and Snowflake did not disclose the amount.
In return for the investment, Matillion now becomes a Snowflake data integration partner, meaning it will use Snowflake’s native application framework. That will make Matillion’s connectors directly available within Snowflake.
Snowflake delivers a cloud-agnostic platform that enables data processing, analytics and storage. Matillion built its technology specifically for the Snowflake Data Cloud. Snowflake has a significant presence on the AWS Marketplace.
“As enterprises face pressure to put their data to work as rapidly as possible, the combination of Snowflake and Matillion enables both data teams and data users in every part of the business with faster time to insights so they can make that data useful across the organization,” said Matthew Scullion, CEO of Matillion. “We’re proud to have the added support of Snowflake Ventures, and look forward to deepening our close partnership and continuing to serve our joint customers.”
This will come as no surprise to any cloud channel partner: using different cloud brands does not mean those platforms talk to one another.
That’s the big takeaway in Seagate Technology’s new commissioned study, the “Multicloud Maturity Report.”
While multicloud remains one of the most hyped aspects of the cloud conversation, any IT pro is aware that AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc., do not communicate well. Multicloud is complex. That’s because each company has designed its platform on proprietary programming.
However, Enterprise Strategy Group, which conducted the research on Seagate’s behalf, found that the organizations that best understand multicloud get the most out of it. In other words, these firms are controlling their cloud costs and using multiple cloud to innovate, according to ESG. Some examples of the results they achieve include:
• Beating revenue goals by nearly twice as much as their less mature counterparts.
• Being more than six times more likely to go to market months or quarters ahead of their competition.
• Being more than three times more likely to expect their companies’ valuation to increase fivefold over the next three years.
“What’s unique in this research is how we see the combination of both taking action on cloud costs and promoting innovation with cloud operations models can be tied back to a dramatic impact on the overarching health of the business.” said Adam DeMattia, senior director of custom research at ESG.
