New Google Cloud Regions Coming to Malaysia, Thailand, New Zealand
The cloud provider aims to capitalize on soaring demand in Asia Pacific.
Channel partners in Asia Pacific soon will have access to more Google Cloud regions.
On Tuesday, the world’s third-largest cloud provider said it will launch in data centers in Malaysia, Thailand and New Zealand. The company already operates 11 of its 34 regions in Asia Pacific. In addition, Google Cloud is working with telecom partners to install subsea cables and points of presence in major cities.

“Enterprises across industries, startups and public sector organizations across Asia Pacific will benefit from key controls that enable them to maintain low latency and the highest security, data residency and compliance standards, including specific data storage requirements,” Karan Bajwa, vice president, Asia Pacific, at Google Cloud, wrote in an Aug. 9 blog.
Google Cloud intends to keep capitalizing on soaring cloud demand in APAC, citing organizations’ digital transformation efforts.

“The new Google Cloud regions will help to address organizations’ increasing needs in the area of digital sovereignty and enable more opportunities for digital transformation and innovation in Asia Pacific,” said Daphne Chung, research director, cloud services and software research, IDC Asia/Pacific.
To that point, IDC expects spending on cloud services in Asia Pacific (minus Japan) to reach $282 billion by 2025.
Other Google Cloud regions in the works will cover Berlin, Dammam, Doha, Mexico, Tel Aviv and Turin. In June, Google Cloud kicked off service in Milan.
