Unified communications specialist Polycom aims to use the cloud to drive mass adoption of their video content management solutions with the launch of the so-called “Accordent Media Services – Powered by Microsoft Windows Azure” offering. Accoredent Media Services is aimed at providing enterprises with an easily-deployable, searchable, secure, cloud-hosted storehouse for video content from conference keynotes to daily video calls.

Polycom is billing Accordent Media Services as the first of its kind on the Windows Azure platform. Cloud providers get the ability to deploy video content management without needing to invest in additional network or storage infrastructure, according to the press release.

It also seems that Polycom is milking the Microsoft partnership and the Windows Azure Content Delivery Network (CDN) for all it’s worth. Accordent Media Services can store and index videos generated by video Accordent devices and Microsoft Lync 2010 alike, shunt it to the cloud using the Microsoft Expression Encoder, and publish it to Microsoft SharePoint 2010 servers. Not to mention that Windows Azure CDN also enables scalable delivery of live and on-demand content.

Polycom has been refocusing its partner program on video solutions of late, following their acquisition of Accordent Technologies (whose technology this new offering is based on, needless to say). But will service providers bite?
