Security specialist Trend Micro says it will protect businesses of all sizes against security breaches with the extension of data loss prevention (DLP) to the cloud. A slew of new and newly-updated Trend Micro products and services are designed to help channel partners protect customer data from the endpoint to cloud. That’s an especially intriguing approach in the age of Wikileaks.

Many large enterprises likely have some kind of DLP deployed — after all, they have an IT budget. But as Trend Micro points out, small businesses are just as at-risk for unauthorized data access, but they may not have the budget or staff to address the issue. Trend Micro’s newly-expanded Data Protection portfolio aims to help cloud service providers bridge that gap for customers.

Here’s the list of cloud services updated by Trend Micro as part of this announcement, available a la carte or ensuite:

  • SecureCloud 1.1

  • Trend Micro Endpoint Encryption

  • Trend Micro Endpoint Encryption for Removable Media

  • Data Privacy and Encryption Module

  • Trend Micro DLP Network Monitor 2.0

  • Trend Micro DLP Endpoint 5.5

  • Data Protection Services

The Trend Micro Data Protection portfolio is available as plugins in to existing Trend Micro security offerings or separately, giving MSPs and cloud service providers (Trend Micro sells only to the channel) a common framework for administration and deployment.

As regulatory compliance becomes a bigger and bigger issue in the channel, enterprises making cloud moves need to invest in security – there’s no two ways about that.
