WebDAM, Box Team on Cloud Content Management Offering

WebDAM Solutions, the self-proclaimed leader in cloud-based digital asset management (DAM – oh, I get it!) has announced it has entered into a collaboration with cloud storage provider Box (neé Box.net) that integrates the two products in a way that brings mutual customers the best of both worlds.

I had the chance to talk with WebDAM’s Ron Selvey about this announcement, who noted that, intriguingly, this team-up is aimed squarely at the established Microsoft SharePoint customer base.

DAM refers to the concept of storing logos, marketing materials and other kinds of creative collateral in the cloud, which can require huge amounts of storage. WebDAM’s value proposition revolves around making it easier for customers to get at, share and secure this data. Right now, a lot of potential enterprise customers use Microsoft SharePoint for this kind of use-case. But Selvey said WebDAM’s focus on the space sets it apart, with more powerful marketing workflows and better control over who can get at what.

And Box was a natural teammate to make this push, Selvey said — both companies are focused on the enterprise space, and both aim to make it as simple as possible for customers to get at their data. With this integration, WebDAM users can save files directly to Box, while Box users can retrieve files from WebDAM repositories. If you like WebDAM better, so be it. If you like Box more, that works too. But either way, users can share collateral easily, according to WebDAM. Plus, the integration provides access to WebDAM files via Box’s vaunted mobile apps.

“Our goal has always been to expedite the media sharing and management process for users. By creating a two‐way digital road with Box, business users will experience more streamlined processes than ever before – and that benefits everyone in the workflow,” said WebDAM CEO and co-founder Steve Rabkin in prepared remarks.

This isn’t the first time TalkinCloud’s heard of a DAM provider partnering up with a cloud company to boost reach and functionality. But with Box investing heavily into building out its technology ecosystem, it’s always interesting to see how these vendors are joining forces to layer on new kinds of functionality into existing systems.
