Asigra Adds Backup, Recovery for Docker Containers
Asigra has integrated Docker-based application backup and recovery into its Cloud Backup software. Here are the details.
Asigra has integrated Docker-based application backup and recovery into its Cloud Backup software. The Toronto-based cloud backup and recovery services company said the new integration addresses the rising demand for Docker among managed service providers (MSPs) and enterprises.
“With more than 11,000 applications on Docker since the company’s founding in 2010, we believe the innovative platform will be highly disruptive in the years to come,” Asigra CEO David Farajun said in a prepared statement. “While Amazon (Web Services) and Microsoft Azure both support Docker containers, there has been no backup solution for these and other environments leveraging the platform. That changes today with our support of Docker and signifies another technology innovation that enables Asigra partners to offer enterprises greater flexibility and cost efficiencies with cloud-based applications.”
Docker enables faster application deployment and upgrade cycles and greater IT flexibility, Asigra said. The open source platform’s containers self-contain all the app-specific operating system packages and libraries, which reduces organizational risks too.
Asigra Executive Vice President Eran Farajun pointed out that Docker provides interoperability for enterprises that are using multiple third-party cloud applications.
And when Asigra Cloud Backup is used with Docker containers, both MSPs and enterprises can become more efficient and lower their operating costs, Farajun added.
“Asigra Cloud Backup is the first and only enterprise data protection platform to protect Docker containers, including data containers and externally mounted data sources, anywhere in the enterprise, along with leveraging Docker containerization technology to make it easier to protect enterprise data, both on the LAN and in public clouds like AWS and Azure,” he told MSPmentor.
Organizations can use Docker to move containers from one cloud to another or from a cloud to on-premise or vice versa.
Asigra also pointed out that its Cloud Backup software can be used cloud to cloud, cloud to on-premise and on-premise to cloud, which make it ideal for Docker container backup and recovery.
Docker container backup and recovery is included at no charge for current Asigra partners and end users of Asigra Cloud Backup.
Asigra said Cloud Backup version 13, scheduled for release in the first quarter, will support Docker containers as well.
