McKesson and HP have joined forces to focus on electronic health records. But they’re not just focusing on the big-hospital types you’d expect. They’re actually looking into making the process something affordable and easy for  independent physician. VARs working the health care vertical — particularly Tech Data solutions providers — might find new pockets of business in small practices, so listen up…

The partnership is actually pretty simple on paper. McKesson is supplying the electronic health record (EHR) system and software, while HP offers up their office-tailored hardware. Everything is pre-installed for easy deployment (at least in theory…). Plus, EHR-certified VARs can provide the bundle with training for doctors in the community.

HP and McKesson made it pretty clear in the white paper that it’s not just a business deal, but that it’s nearly altruistic. Healthcare is important, and so is proper maintenance of records. Both companies are looking to give physicians the edge and decrease the load on paper work so their practices can hone in on patient care.

McKesson’s software is robust, too. It includes clinical and EHR software as well as business management and revenue management solutions. Plus, there’s connectivity solutions for health information exchange and medical-surgical equipment and supplies. More specifically, software choices are the following:

  • Practice Partner

  • Lytec MD

  • Medisoft Clinical EHR/practice management systems,

  • All feature Bright Note Technology; automation for physician chart processes.

And the lucky distributor for this stuff? No surprises here, giant Tech Data will be shipping Pre-configured HP and McKesson bundles based on “practice size and will include point-of-care solutions for faster input and access to patient information, improved efficiency and optimized performance. McKesson will test and certify each bundle.”

It looks like this partnership could deliver results … faster than health care reform.
