Intronis has named Neal Bradbury as VP of channel development, succeeding Ted Roller, who has joined LogMeIn (NASDAQ: LOGM), MSPmentor has learned. Bradbury is co-founder of Intronis, a cloud-based backup company focused on managed services providers (MSPs). Formerly VP of operations, Bradbury was one of the key executives who in 2009 decided to bet the entire business on a channel model. The result: Intronis is ranked on the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest-growing privately held companies — though the cloud backup market remains fiercely competitive.

“My charter is to double the customer base and really get into the channel and make [our partners] more successful,” Bradbury told MSPmentor. Among his key priorities: Working with VP of Marketing and Community Carol Ferrari on a certification program in 2013 to more fully empower MSPs.

Bradbury is no stranger to the IT channel, and he has a deep knowledge of how MSPs leverage Intronis’s cloud-based backup and recovery platform. According to a prepared statement:

“Bradbury has been instrumental in cultivating the customer success experience at Intronis, having held many leadership roles since founding the company in 2003, including partner support, product management, and most recently operations.”

How This All Started

Bradbury and former Intronis CEO Sam Gutmann, who exited in 2010, graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute 2003. Together, Bradbury and Gutmann spotted the cloud-based backup opportunity after using tape drives and lousy Internet storage services. “We knew there had to be a better way,” said Bradbury.

The result was Intronis, which initially sold direct but shifted to a pure channel model in 2009 to gain economies of scale. “It was one of the scariest decisions we ever made, but also one of the best as well,” said Bradbury.

Indeed, Intronis has emerged as one of the best-known cloud storage brands among MSPs. Former Channel Chief Ted Roller deserves some of the credit for partner success. Roller joined the company in mid-2010 and raised Intronis’s profile at major channel events hosted by ASCII, CompTIA and UBM Channel, among others.

Now, Roller is moving on to LogMeIn, sources have confirmed to MSPmentor. But Bradbury’s channel background should ensure partner consistency amid Roller’s exit.

Next Moves

Intronis remains in growth mode but there are some lingering questions. Chief among them: Who will be the company’s next CEO?

Jay Bolgatz was named interim CEO in September 2012, replacing former CEO Kent Plunkett. Last I heard Plunkett remains an investor in the company and I believe Intronis has been considering internal and external candidates.

Across the MSP market, several storage-oriented companies are making staffing moves in preparation for 2013. Datto, for one, named Dana Prestigiacomo as its VP of marketing, MSPmentor confirmed yesterday.

Stay tuned. We are aware of at least two other high-profile executive moves.
