Juniper Helps Enterprises Unify Networks
By extending its Ethernet VPN/Virtual Extensible LAN to its campus portfolio, Juniper Networks creates a unified common architecture for campus and data-center fabric.

Juniper Networks Thursday announced it has extended its Ethernet VPN (EVPN)/Virtual Extensible LAN (VXLAN) to the campus portfolio, enabling a common architecture for campus and data-center fabrics.
The move eliminates the challenges that enterprises face having separate campus and data-center networks that leverage different architectures, and the need to connect them. Referring to the new capability as a building block for an enterprise-wide fabric, Juniper says it helps enterprises unify their networks under a common architecture, which is key to building a simple, secure and automated multicloud.
With Juniper’s new EVPN-VXLAN campus architecture, enterprises can build campus networks using the same protocols that are popular in the most stable and efficient data centers that exist today, the vendor said.
To help customers with the deployment of the campus network architecture, Juniper is expanding its campus portfolio via resell agreements with Wi-Fi vendor Aerohive, providing a single solution for wired, Wi-Fi and WAN.
Juniper also announced it’s enhancing its Contrail SD-WAN capabilities with support for fine-grained Application Quality of Experience (AppQoE) and industry-first active-active clustering for Juniper’s NFX and SRX Series branch devices. The vendor also is expanding its five-step multicloud migration framework to include evolution paths for campus and branch networks. The migration provides enterprises with a set of best practices, natural technology insertions and recommended products and services to more easily complete the journey to a secure and automated multicloud.

EX Series Switches augmented with EVPN-VXLAN campus architecture: By extending EVPN-VXLAN beyond the data center, Juniper provides customers the building blocks for an enterprise-wide fabric. The EVPN-VXLAN protocol is suitable for campus architectures because it provides layer-3 transport with layer-2 capabilities that allow enterprises to evolve while also taking into consideration legacy applications. A new EX4650 switch with 25G/100G density complements the existing EVPN-VXLAN capable EX9000 Series switches.
Juniper’s Contrail SD-WAN now supports AppQoE offering visibility and dynamic management into individual granular application session performance for more than 3,700 unique applications, such as Microsoft Outlook, SharePoint and Skype for Business. Based on real-time analysis of application traffic in Juniper’s NFX, SRX and vSRX Series WAN edge endpoints, customers can tune application performance to and from the branch using Contrail Service Orchestration managed policies. This gives enterprise IT managers the ability to dynamically prioritize business-critical application traffic based on business policy intent. Juniper also enhanced architectural reliability and flexibility in the branch and WAN, with the company’s NFX and SRX Series branch devices now supporting active-active clustering, delivering double the connectivity and reliability to important sites across any type of WAN connectivity, such as LTE, broadband internet or traditional MPLS.
The new five-step multicloud migration framework for campus and branch networks provides customers a methods-driven approach to creating a customized path to multicloud. The framework considers aspects of architecture, products, tools, processes and people. It incorporates Juniper’s multicloud-ready solutions along with available professional services at each stage of the journey.
