Report: Small Business Mobile Solutions Spending Swinging Upward

Small businesses spent 7 percent more and very small businesses 10 percent more on mobile solutions as an overall part of their technology spending, the SMB group said. The data comes from the 2014 SMB Mobile Solutions Study, containing research about mobile solutions adoption among very small (1-19 employees) and small (20-99 employees) businesses.
And, small businesses plan to spend more on mobile in the future, with 48 percent of very small businesses and 70 percent of small businesses projecting to increase mobile spending in 2015, the report said.
Here are some additional highlights from the report:
20 percent of small business respondents plan to deploy mobile conferencing, document management, find-me-follow-me presence, personal assistant and/or document editing and creation apps in the next year.
The number of mobile business apps used regularly rose 27 percent in the past year in small businesses.
25 percent of very small and small businesses plan to add time management and capture mobile apps, followed by mobile marketing and advertising at 24 percent, business analytics at 23 percent and financial management/payment processing at 23 percent.
67 percent of very small and 73 percent of small businesses expect mobile apps to replace some of their current business applications.
40 percent of small businesses don’t support BYOD over security concerns and difficulties managing a BYOD program.
43 percent of small businesses use a mobile device management solution and 33 percent use a solution to manage and secure mobile apps.
“Small businesses are clearly swept up in the mobile tsunami, and mobile solutions are becoming essential to small business success,” wrote Laurie McCabe, SMB Group partner, in a blog post. “However, small business adoption of mobile devices, apps and services is rapidly outpacing their ability to secure and manage mobile assets.”
