Citrix Senior Marketing Director for Cloud App Delivery Calvin Hsu announced the update to XenDesktop in his blog this week.

Citrix (CTXS) is about to release a point upgrade to XenDesktop, adding support for Microsoft (MSFT) Windows Server 2012 R2 (the release that enables multi-tenant-aware storage) and Windows 8.1.  XenDesktop 7.1 is set to hit on Oct. 23, on the heels of Microsoft’s Windows platform releases.

Citrix said it is keeping step with Microsoft on these product releases to enable managed service providers and others to deliver Windows-as-a-Service. XenDesktop 7, released in June, brought XenApp application delivery to Citrix's FlexCast management architecture, further advancing desktop-as-a-service technology.

Citrix announced the planned update in a blog post this week by Calvin Hsu, senior director of product marketing for Cloud App Delivery at Citrix.

A tech preview of XenDesktop 7.1 is available for download now here.
