CenturyLink (CTL) offers a cloud platform that delivers "high-performance, secure, reliable and scalable cloud solutions for all workloads." This platform was used by 6 percent of survey respondents.
OpenStack is becoming increasingly popular worldwide. This open-source cloud software initiative is led by OpenStack Executive Director Jonathan Bryce and was used by 10 percent of survey respondents.
SoftLayer, an IBM (IBM) cloud IaaS offering, was leveraged by 11 percent of survey respondents. SoftLayer recently was added to the Equinix Cloud Exchange interconnection solution as well.
Google Compute Engine, aka Google's cloud platform, allows users to "run large-scale workloads on virtual machines hosted on Google's infrastructure." This platform was leveraged by 13 percent of survey respondents.
Texas-based managed cloud computing company Rackspace (RAX) was used by 14 percent of survey respondents. Rackspace is led by CEO Taylor Rhodes and ranked 10 on the Talkin' Cloud 100 list.
Fifteen percent of survey respondents said they leveraged the VMware vCloud hybrid service, which enables users to extend their data centers and applications to the cloud.
The Citrix Systems turnkey IaaS cloud platform also was leveraged by 15 percent of survey respondents. In fact, this platform is currently used by over 2,500 cloud providers worldwide.
Microsoft Windows Azure ranked second among IaaS platforms and service providers that were leveraged by survey respondents. This cloud computing platform was used by 23 percent of respondents and also helped Microsoft's commercial cloud revenue rise 114 percent in the final three months of 2014.
Amazon Web Services Elastic Compute Cloud (AWS EC2) is a web service that delivers resizable compute capacity in the cloud and was the most commonly used IaaS platform or service provider by survey respondents. Additionally, AWS recently launched C4 instances on EC2 that are available as reserved and on-demand instances.
