Carbonite Acquires MailStore, Expands SMB Data Protection Solutions
Carbonite announced a definitive agreement to acquire MailStore this week as the company looks to expand its portfolio of continuity solutions for small and midsize businesses. The acquisition is also expected to allow Carbonite to provide its channel partners with email archiving and indexing solutions for customers.
Carbonite (CARB) announced a definitive agreement to acquire MailStore this week for $19.8M as the company looks to expand its portfolio of continuity solutions for small and mid-sized businesses. The acquisition is also expected to allow Carbonite to provide its channel partners with email archiving and indexing solutions for customers.
“MailStore is a great fit for Carbonite, as both companies are committed to providing SMBs with powerful yet simple data protection solutions,” said Mohamad Ali, CEO of Carbonite, in a statement. “In addition to offering email archiving to businesses worldwide with MailStore’s existing solutions, Carbonite will integrate MailStore’s robust full-text search and indexing capabilities into our product portfolio to help our business customers better manage, understand and leverage their data.”
The Viersen, Germany-based email archiving company is best known for its MailStore Server solution, which creates copies of all emails in a central archive to protect enterprise data from security breaches. MailStore released a Service Provider Edition of the solution earlier this year that was designed specifically to help channel partners run software on their own infrastructures and collaborate on their clients’ business requirements, according to the announcement.
Carbonite believes both MailStore Server and Service Provider Edition will be beneficial additions to channel partners looking to provide data protection for their customers; however, the company does not have a specific timeline for when these products will be available through the Carbonite Partner Program. Channel partners will continue to be a top priority as the company develops its integration plan, according to a Carbonite spokesperson.
The deal is expected to close before the end of the year.
