Digium has launched a new cloud-focused subsidiary following the acquisition of VocalCloud, a provider of cloud-based VoIP offerings. The newly launched Digium Cloud Services has been formed to continue providing customers with the Switchvox Cloud offering, which is a hosted version of the business phone system.
Digium Cloud Services will deliver not only Switchvox Cloud, but it appears the new company also will work on future cloud-based unified communications products and services. And all of this stems from a partnership formed earlier this year between Digium and VocalCloud, when the two companies worked together on the launch of Switchvox Cloud. This acquisition should push that even further.
“Digium’s acquisition of VocalCloud is part of a focused strategy to position the company within the rapidly growing UC-as-a-service (UCaaS) market,” said Danny Windham, CEO of Digium, in a prepared statement. “Digium Cloud Services provides the necessary foundation and infrastructure to offer new cloud-based products and services for SMBs, as well as users of the Asterisk open source project. In fact, new developments are already underway.”
Additionally, Digium is a channel-focused sales company that makes its products available through its growing network of partners. It doesn’t look as though it has any plans to change that go-to-market strategy with the launch of Digium Cloud Services.
According to Digium, Switchvox can be delivered by partners as either a hosted or premises-based offering. The good news is Digium Cloud Services promises customers can be easily migrated between one and the other version. For partners, that means a certain amount of flexibility in providing a UCaaS offering that fits the needs of the individual customer.
