Sophos confirmed weeks of rumors today, publicly announcing that it has acquired cloud-based email security provider Reflexion Networks. Sophos will package Reflexion’s technology and services into Sophos Cloud, its cloud-based management console. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Reflexion reported swift growth rates a few years back. The email security market is a competitive one with several players deeply entrenched in the managed service provider market.  Another player, Nuvotera, formerly known as Spam Soap, was acquired by J2 Global’s Excel Micro earlier this year.

Today’s Sophos, Reflexion deal combines Sophos Cloud’s endpoint security, mobile device management and security, server security and application whitelisting functionality with Reflexion Network’s system for blocking spam and viruses. Reflexion also provides archiving, discovery and recovery services, plus encryption services and business continuity services.

Woburn, Massachusett-based Reflexion Networks has more than 17,000 customers around the world, and more than 2,000 managed service providers sell its cloud services every month, the company said.  And here’s what the company’s CEO said about the deal in a prepared statement:

“At Reflexion Networks we’ve always been passionate about serving the vast global market of small and midsize businesses with easy to use services delivered through MSPs,” said CEO David Hughes. “Sophos shares our vision, and has the global reach and partner commitment to make it a reality. We couldn’t be more excited about joining the Sophos team.”

Sophos’ VP of global channel sales said the companies made a good fit for each other because they are both 100 percent channel.
