Atos Announces 3 New Acquisitions in One Day
Atos shores up HPC, data analytics and BI, and PLM capabilities with three latest acquisitions.
Atos has announced the acquisition of three companies in one day, Nimbix, Visual BI and IDEAL GRP.
Nimbix is a Dallas-based high-performance computing (HPC) cloud platform provider. The move strengthens Atos’ existing HPC capabilities and extends its footprint in the U.S.
Atos says the combined capabilities offer “a comprehensive solution for workload orchestration for both on-prem and cloud customers.” The joint solution enables higher levels of self service and automation, enhancing the company’s capabilities with multicloud bursting and hybrid capability.

This will enable them to expand its market offering and reach with a strong proposition in HPC cloud, under Atos’ OneCloud initiative.
Atos’ Pierre Barnabé
Pierre Barnabé is senior executive vice president and Atos’ global head of big data and security. He said Nimbix’s technology “is ahead of the market”. He also cited its “strong experience and highly skilled experts”. Together these “will strengthen the Atos teams and enable us to expand our market offering and reach.”
Visual BI
At the same time Atos has reached an agreement to acquire Plano, Texas-based firm Visual BI. The company focuses exclusively on cloud data analytics and business intelligence. It is a Snowflake Elite partner, Microsoft Gold Partner for Data & Analytics and an SAP partner. The company also supports the technology platforms from partners Fishtown Analytics, Fivetran, Tableau, HVR Software, Qlik, Theobald Software and Alteryx.
Atos plans to add Visual BI’s cloud data-related capabilities, consulting services and partnerships to its technology portfolio. This, it says, will enable it to address customers’ increasing need for BI and analytics in cloud environments.
Atos’ Wim Los
Wim Los, senior vice president of cloud enterprise solutions, says the acquisition supports the company’s efforts in data-driven transformation. This is “in line with the recent launch of our Atos Digital Hub initiative.”
IDEAL GRP
Finally, Atos said it was acquiring product life cycle management (PLM) system integrator IDEAL GRP. A platinum-level solution partner of Siemens Digital Industries Software, the company is headquartered in Finland.
IDEAL GRP offers consulting, integration, software and maintenance services for manufacturing. The acquisition will add a team of approximately 100 experts to Atos with double platinum status.
The financial details of the acquisitions have not been revealed.
Similar to IBM, Atos has been reported to be exploring the potential sale of legacy IT businesses. Bloomberg reports that the company is looking for partners for operations comprising about 20% of group revenue. This includes its data center hosting and call center units.
