It’s been a few weeks since mobile device management (MDM) provider AirWatch announced same-day device and application management support for Windows Phone 8 to enable enterprises and public sector organizations to take full advantage of the new Windows Phone 8 device and application management capabilities. AirWatch also recently pushed its AirWatch Secure Content Locker, a solution for managing and distributing content to corporate mobile devices. According to the company, AirWatch Secure Content Locker ensures that content stays with the desired contacts through role-based access controls, geofencing, multi-factor authentication, directory services, and user group integration.

So how are enterprises using AirWatch Secure Content Locker? The following are some examples of how the technology is being used:

  • Transportation and Aviation — United Airlines has distributed electronic flight manuals to pilots, saving the company 16 million sheets of paper and 326,000 gallons of jet fuel per year. According to United Airlines Senior Manager John Meritt, this assistance created “a huge opportunity for flight operations, especially now that we don’t have to print new documents each time they are revised.”

  • Corporate Governance — Chemring Group Plc provided secure document access to executives and members of the board of directors. “Our board uses iPads for meetings which makes secure access to confidential information absolutely paramount,” says Simon Merry, global head of IT at Chemring Group Plc. “AirWatch is an essential component in our secure data container that safeguards sensitive information for board members.”

  • Retail — Bandalux uses AirWatch Secure Content Locker to deliver the latest sales numbers and marketing presentations to remote employees. “We use the AirWatch Secure Content Locker to give our sales team the latest sales presentations, videos and information to share with potential and current customers,” said Antonio Saiz, IT administrator at Bandalux.
