It was the first Transform event to be held in conjunction with Accelerate. Transform is an invitation-only event, and the company’s flagship global business event, to help customers drive intelligent transformation and features an innovation showcase.
At Transform 3.0 at Accelerate, partners, customers and Lenovo experts were together to explore transformation possibilities, including dep-dive breakout sessions.
ThinkReality is a new Think sub-brand, and the ThinkReality A6 is Lenovo’s first solution in the portfolio. It’s an artificial reality (AR) hands-free headset, a mobile device designed for simple and complex AR solutions in the enterprise.
ThinkBook is also a new sub-brand in the Think portfolio. Lenovo populated the new S series portfolio with the 13s and 14s devices that target small and medium size businesses. The ThinkBook S series is an ultra-slim device that runs Windows 10.
“The new wave of young business leaders expects their workplace devices to do more but with minimalist look,” said Eric Yu, senior vice president and general manager of the SMB business segment at Lenovo IDG.
These devices are designed for SMBs buying consumer laptops for perceived design and price advantages but can no longer rationalize their lack of extended services, warranties and security.
Lenovo’s ThinkIoT portfolio includes the new ThinkCentre Nano (M90n-1) IoT. Used as a secure IoT gateway, the new device is designed to provide processing and security for the IoT devices at the edge.
The Nano IoT increases responsiveness and reliability by enabling the rapid relay of information among connected IoT peripherals, sensors and devices, even in harsher commercial environments.
The companion ThinkCentre Nano (M90n-1) is an ultra-portable compact commercial desktop series of devices. It’s designed to fit anywhere — behind a monitor, under a table or on a bookshelf, for some examples. The new device is powered by a compatible USB Type-C monitor or Type-C dock. It’s built to be energy efficient and incorporate a fanless design, has a broad thermal range (0-50°C) and is able to withstand higher vibration and thermal environments like manufacturing.
Lenovo attendees got a break from the business of the event with a carnival-themed reception and special performance by Barenaked Ladies.
Lenovo and Intel have a long history of partnership. Greg Ernst, vice president, U.S. sales and marketing at Intel, addressed Accelerate attendees, and thanked them for their patience as Intel experienced critical PC supply constraints over the past three quarters. He noted that CPU output is picking up and working its way through the supply chain, and that customer demand will catch up soon.
“Our CEO and the leadership team at Intel made the decision that we will not let the supply chain limit your growth ever again. What we’ve done, from here on forward, is that we’ll take our forecast and add volume on top in the form of manufacturing capacity, so when the market catches fire again you won’t have to worry,” said Ernst.
Lenovo reaches partners through its network of distribution partners who were present on the showcase floor. Distributors on site included Arrow, D&H Distribution, Ingram Micro, Synnex, and Tech Data.
Calling it a new category of PCs, Lenovo gave event attendees a firsthand look at a foldable PC that’s been in development for a few years, and is not scheduled for release until sometime in 2020.
The new PC, an addition to Lenovo’s flagship ThinkPad X1 family, is designed to adapt to usage throughout the day, and targets the SMB market, mobile, and tech-savvy workers.

Alternating its Lenovo Accelerate conference between the East and West Coasts, partners wanting to attend the 2020 event will be packing their bags for Las Vegas, June 16-19.
Lenovo Accelerate 2019 was a sold-out event. The conference, which took place last week in Orlando, attracted both partners and their customers — a first for Transform 3.0 at Accelerate. Previously, the partner and customer events (Accelerate and Transform, respectively), were held separately. Transform 2.0 was held in New York City last September.
That wasn’t the only thing new at Accelerate. Nicole Roskill, executive director, global channels, Data Center Group (DCG), and Kevin Hooper, president of North American DCG, both made their first appearances at the event, having joined the company earlier in the year.
Both of these newcomers to Lenovo – but not to the industry – made promises to partners, that the company’s missteps would be a thing of the past.
“We’ve made a channel-first commitment, and what that means is that we lead with partners. This is a recognition of how critical partners are to our success and our recognition that we must be a better partner to them. We must give partners something to build a business on top of. So this is about creating opportunity and giving it to partners. This is about having very clear rules of engagement around when Lenovo would be in the market versus the partner. We have had issues in the past that we’re addressing,” said Roskill.
There was also a flurry of new product announcements from Lenovo’s Intelligent Device Group (IDG) and the Data Center Group (DCG).
