The 2014 “Got the Nerve” Triathlon takes place on May 17 in Mount Gretna, Pennsylvania, and I’ve put together a team to compete. Greg Praske keeps getting older, but his hair doesn’t — he’s still blonde. My daughter’s blonde, too. She’s physically fit and ready to tackle this. Me? I’m the old dude with the beard. The gray beard.

Why are we doing this?  Glad you asked.

To raise funds for Horizon Initiative, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Their mission is to rescue and empower orphaned children in Africa to lives of self-sustainability and purpose.

“Got the Nerve” plans to raise $40,000 to help build Horizon’s next children’s home called a “micro-community” in Bondo, located in Western Kenya. One-hundred percent of all outside donations go directly to Horizon’s work on the ground.

As for the Two Blondes and One Beard?  Among the three of us, our goal is to raise $5,000 from our friends and supporters. And when we do, I will shave this gray beard off completely and have a clean cut face for the first time in 40 years. That way, you can’t miss my smile of appreciation. Yep. I believe so strongly in Horizon that I’ve got that much nerve.

Thank you in advance for helping sustain new beginnings for so many deserving children … and for helping me recharge both my radialis muscle group and my Remington Super Rotary Counter Rotating Shaver.

See you at the finish line!
