Verizon Enterprise Solutions has named a new president, one whose background includes the IT sector.

Christopher Formant comes to Verizon’s business division from Avaya. He succeeds John Stratton, who now serves as executive vice president and president of Verizon’s wireline unit.

“Chris has the expertise and marketplace know-how to ensure Verizon brings enterprise-class value to the world’s leading companies,” Stratton said in a prepared statement.

Formant spent six years at Avaya. He most recently worked as senior vice president and president of Avaya Government Solutions and Avaya Professional Services. He also was president of global services.

Before that, he consulted for BearingPoint, a business consulting firm; led Scient/iXL, an Internet consulting firm; and worked as a managing partner for PricewaterhouseCoopers and an executive for credit card provider MBNA.

Formant now oversees all aspects of Verizon Enterprise, including sales, operations and marketing.
