Windstream has appointed Bob Gunderman to the role of interim chief financial officer, succeeding Tony Thomas, who was named president of the real-estate investment trust (REIT) that is being created by the spinoff of the company’s telco assets.

Gunderman is senior vice president and treasurer for Windstream, responsible for all capital budgeting, forecasting, treasury and capital market functions, debt management, investor relations and risk management. He previously served as VP of financial planning for the company.

Before joining Windstream, Gunderman was vice president of internal audit for Alltel.

Windstream announced in July that it would spin off certain telecommunications network assets into an independent, publicly traded REIT. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2015. Thomas will leave Windstream when that deal closes, taking on the role of CEO of the REIT. A national search to fill the CFO position has begun.
