Former Kaseya community leader Brendan Cosgrove now advises Drumbi.
Brendan Cosgrove, Kaseya‘s director of global social media and community, has exited the company. It’s the latest in a growing list of executive and community leader changes at Kaseya and across the MSP software community. So what’s the bigger story here?
I think we’re seeing three trends converge at once. My personal opinion:
MSP community leaders, after five or more years burning the midnight oil in their current posts, are looking for new or different industry opportunities.
MSP software companies in many cases are re-thinking the term “community” — striving to keep MSPs engaged without attempting to compete head-on with ConnectWise‘s community approach — known as IT Nation.
Recent M&A activity across the market — including Kaseya, Level Platforms, N-able and others — has forced many community leaders to re-think their own career paths.
Among the recent changes:
Cosgrove has exited Kaseya, according to his LinkedIn profile. He’s now advising Drumbi, a communications provider that allows businesses to work more closely with their customers. Cosgrove deserves major credit for over-communicating with MSPs when an investment group acquired Kaseya in mid-2013.
Level Platforms veteran and former MSP Dave Sobel recently joined GFI Software to help drive the GFI Max community of MSPs. Another Level Platforms veteran — Rob Rae — joined Datto in 2013 to drive business development.
AVG, parent of Level Platforms, has also made its own moves — hiring community experts like Mike Byrne (a Dell, PacketTrap and N-able veteran).
Former ConnectWise Director of Community Jeannine Edwards is now focused on an ISV partner push. Amy Hodge, a ConnectWise veteran herself, has taken over Edwards’ community responsibilities.
Instead of slowing down, I suspect the community leadership changes will accelerate…
