The functions and features available in LabTech Software’s remote monitoring and management (RMM) platform are poised to expand exponentially under the company’s new LabTech Synergy platform that lets third party developers add onto the RMM platform.
Independent software vendors and managed service providers (MSPs) alike will be able to write and package scripts to run with LabTech’s RMM platform, opening more capabilities for partners and more revenue opportunities for development-minded MSPs.
LabTech Software CEO Matt Nachtrab announced the LabTech Synergy Platform during a keynote address at the Automation Nation 2014 conference this morning in Orlando, Fla. He told attendees that LabTech’s chief technology officer (CTO) Greg Buerk had originally coded LabTech’s RMM platform “with an open source mindset. He did it so that someone else could expand on it.”
The program has been in beta for a year and was launched to let others customize the LabTech platform to suit the needs of their own businesses. Currently, Nachtrab said, there are 272 vendors in the SDK program.
“If you can imagine something in LabTech that you want to do, you can create it,” Nachtrab said. “…Anything you can imagine in LabTech you can turn into innovation.”
For instance, Nachtrab recounted one MSP partner that used scripts to automate the process of getting data about the status of Veeam servers and putting that data into the LabTech database. This MSP system admin was able to create database monitors and a tab for them in the LabTech interface – an automation that he estimated to save hundreds of hours of work per year.
Another script performs a full audit of LabTech servers, Nachtrab said.
And it’s through the beta of this program that Webroot was able to commission the development company Stack Advisors to integrate Webroot’s security services for MSPs with the LabTech Software platform.
The LabTech Synergy program will include fundamental APIs and a solutions exchange – a marketplace where MSPs and ISVs can offer the solutions they have developed for sale to other MSPs.
“There’s an opportunity here for LabTech partners to create new revenue,” said Nachtrab.
