Netgear R6300 Dual-Band Gigabit WiFi Router Surfs with Speed
May 2, 2012
Networking specialist Netgear’s (NASDAQ: NTGR) latest wireless router for the small-business and home-office market, the R6300 dual-band Gigabit Wi-Fi router, is designed with speed in mind. VARs serving the SMB space may want to take a look, especially as the mobile revolution rages on.
According to Netgear, the 6300 is the industry’s first 802.11ac router, delivering Web surfing speeds up to three times faster than 802.11n. It is powered by Broadcom’s 5G WiFi IEEE 802.11ac chips, and features speeds of up to 1300Mbps on 5GHz and 450Mbps on 2.4GHz. Because not every office is not, shall we say, up to speed just yet, the router is also backward-compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n for legacy Wi-Fi devices.
Negear is pitching the router as perfect for customers needing to connect multiple mobile devices, when slower surfing speeds can really crimp your style. In case of network problems, the R6300 also features Genie, a free app for PCs, Macs, iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, enabling users to control, monitor, repair and manage their networks.
The app also lets users to print on any USB or networked printer directly from an iPad or iPhone, and makes guest network access simple, allowing guest devices to go online through the router without the need for secure login information. The guest network also prevents users from seeing and accessing other computers, printers, storage devices and other home network devices — ideal for the bring your own device (BYOD) workplace.
The router also includes two USB ports for networking and USB storage, if you need it.
With more data than ever streaming over networks, the last thing users want is to have to wait around while Web pages load. Faster routers designed with mobile devices in mind are preparing small businesses for dealing with data-heavy workdays. Surf’s up.
