Rewind about five years. eWeek Technology Editor Peter Coffee (pictured) was on stage at a CIO conference. The VAR Guy was in the audience taking notes. Plenty of technology editors step into conference spotlights. But few have mastered public speaking as well as Coffee. Faster forward to the present. So, where is Coffee these days? The VAR Guy has the answer.Heck, even Wikipedia has the answer. Coffee is now Director of Platform Research at Salesforce.com. He’s among the confirmed guest speakers for Ingram Micro’s Cloud Summit, scheduled for June 7 in Dallas.
Coffee’s career is an interesting case study in evolution. The recent recession, coupled with the “evolving” IT media landscape, has sent many technology editors running for cover. Beloved tech magazine mascots have died amid the fallout.
Heck, even The VAR Guy hides behind an anonymous blog to scrape together a living on Long Island’s Gold Coast. (Move over, Mr. Gatsby.)
But Coffee has always been different. Plenty of technology reporters are great writers. But few have stage presence. Coffee is the rare exception, and a humble one at that.
Assuming The VAR Guy exists, our resident blogger plans to grab some time with Coffee at the Cloud Summit. It will be time well spent.
