Happy Friday! Before you scoot off to your weekend shenanigans, take a look at some new products you should have on your radar from ProfitBricks, SolarWinds, Vormetric, Barracuda and Veeam.
ProfitBricks has made some enhancements to its cloud infrastructure that should make the channel sit up and take notice. The company has adding ultra-high speed solid-state drive (SSD) and Intel Xeon Processor for provisioning in all data centers, creating an exclusive "Core Technology Choice" capability that allows partners to choose between AMD Opteron processors and Intel processors within the same virtual data center.
"We are strategically focused on integrating the latest technology in order to provide the best-performing and easiest to use cloud infrastructure in the market," said Achim Weiss, chief executive officer at ProfitBricks. "With the addition of Intel processors and SSD, ProfitBricks is offering a complete set of technology tools so users can evolve their cloud business model."
SolarWinds has added support for its EMC XtremIO and Pure Storage all-flash arrays (AFAs) to its Storage Resource Monitor (SRM). Combined with its support of traditional storage devices, SRM is now more capable of maximizing the performance of multi-generational storage environments with a single tool, simplifying the deployment of flash based storage. SolarWinds says its SRM gives admins insights into multi-vendor traditional and flash storage resources and their potential performance impact to enhance business-critical application performance.
“Flash-based storage is quickly becoming commonplace in the enterprise due to the improving cost-to-performance ratio,” said Gerardo Dada, vice president, product marketing, SolarWinds. “However, many IT departments must now manage new high-performance flash arrays alongside legacy storage systems. This can prove challenging, especially in terms of managing overall capacity, monitoring performance, aligning storage performance with changing application requirements and the complexity of generating consolidated alerting and reporting. SolarWinds SRM can help IT departments get the most out of their existing storage while also migrating to newer flash-based technologies, and then realize the full potential of their flash investment.”
Data protection provider Vormetric is participating in a new pilot program to offer Key Management-as-a-Service for Salesforce Shield Platform Encryption. The partnership allows admins to meet compliance requirements for Salesforce by storing, managing and maintaining tenant secrets used to derive encryption keys within a secure Vormetric-hosted environment.
“Past data encryption options for SaaS resulted in reductions to business functionality, as encryption services were not integrated with SaaS infrastructure,” said Vormetric Vice President of Cloud CJ Radford. “This combined solution with Salesforce represents a new milestone – offering a complete, flexible encryption solution. Salesforce Shield Platform Encryption provides the robust encryption service, while Vormetric provides complementary capabilities to further address needs to meet compliance and best practices for managing of encryption key lifecycles outside of Salesforce. And all without the need for enterprises to become cryptographic experts.”
The new Barracuda NextGen Firewall F-Series version 7.0 is out, and it has some cool capabilities designed specifically for the cloud. The firewall can be natively deployed in public cloud platforms including Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure–in fact, it supports deploying unlimited firewalls in Microsoft Azure within a tenant and configuration cluster. Version 7.0 gives admins the ability to connect on-premises and cloud networks through multiple uplinks with dynamic failover, traffic balancing and WAN optimization, which should help them scale more effectively.
“Security at the network perimeter and at the endpoint was considered ‘good security’ years ago,” said Klaus Gheri, vice president of network security at Barracuda. “As threats became more targeted, traditional port blocking firewalls were no longer enough – and the next-generation firewall was born. Today, we’re at another crossroad, where the next-generation firewall must move beyond application and user aware security. The Barracuda NextGen Firewall was built for the cloud era. Designed from the ground-up for dispersed networks, the Barracuda NextGen Firewall redefines the traditional next-generation firewall by enabling an intelligent network perimeter that offers fast, secure, reliable and affordable access to business applications from anywhere and any device.”
Veeam has had a couple of announcements recently regarding partnerships with big vendors. The company collaborated with Microsoft for the new Veeam Availability Suite 9.5 to be released later this year, which will will fully integrate with Windows Server 2016 and Hyper-V technologies used in the data center.
“It is our goal to be one of the first Availability solutions to fully support Windows Server 2016 and Hyper-V 2016 technologies, but also to deliver the most comprehensive support,” said Doug Hazelman, vice president of product strategy at Veeam. “The latest version of Veeam Availability Suite will provide users with the ability to utilize the most current Microsoft technology and benefit from enterprise-grade security and reduced complexities. Veeam, working together with Microsoft, provides the right combination of virtualization, and fast recovery to deliver Availability for the Always-On Enterprise.”
In addition, Veeam released a new pre-configured and optimized hardware and software solution that combines Cisco Unified Computing Systems (UCS) and Veeam technologies to address recovery time SLAs of all data and applications. The Veeam Availability Solution for Cisco UCS will be sold through Avnet.
“Veeam took the complexity out of legacy backup and replication for virtualized environments long ago with our Availability solutions,” said Andy Vandeveld, vice president of global alliances at Veeam. “Veeam and Cisco have been working together for years on ‘meet in the channel’ validated solutions, and this is the next logical step in the evolution of the relationship: delivering an availability solution directly to enterprise customers and service providers on high-performance hardware from Cisco that is pre-configured and optimized by Avnet.”
