Return of the (Networking) King
The VAR Guy must be getting a little older. He has taken far too long to solve a simple riddle: Where is Novell NetWare Pioneer Drew Major, the father of network operating systems? Has Major retired? No. Is he running another startup? Sort of.
After a Novell venture called Volera imploded, Major launched Move Networks around 2003 and quietly worked on several projects. But these days, Move Networks’ Web site doesn’t mention Majors.
Where could he be? Alas, The VAR Guy failed to check the most obvious destination of all: Cisco Systems.
When Cisco recently completed its acquisition of Arroyo Video Solutions, The VAR Guy finally had his answer. Major was co-founder of Arroyo and has agreed to join Cisco as part of the acquisition. Working for a $30 billion startup sure sounds tempting.
