SAP Adds Partners, Capabilities to HANA Platform

On the heels of its cloud-based mobile device and application management release, SAP (NYSE: SAP) unveiled support and integration with Hadoop environments including an expanded Big Data partner council, which includes a cross-section of startups, hardware vendors and software providers.

SAP’s Data Services and Information Steward offerings are intended to provide business users and IT with information management capabilities such as reading from and loading to Hive and Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) and text data processing, which extracts relevant content from files, Web logs and social media

The company’s real-time data platform, based on its flagship HANA platform, includes data management capabilities from Sybase IQ, Sybase ESP, Sybase ASE and Enterprise Information Management platforms.

The aim is to help organizations access, build, and manage information value chains across a variety of data sources, whether they are from SAP or a partner application source.

The company also announced enhancements to the HANA in-memory database platform, including the release of Service Pack 4, new access to a development sandbox for HANA in the cloud via Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the Startup Focus program aimed at entrepreneurs looking to make their own improvements to the HANA platform.

The newest service pack for HANA also offers native text searching capabilities on structured and unstructured content, interoperability with the R open source statistical environment and additional in-database predictive and business capabilities.

Developers who sign up for the AWS offering are able to run their own preconfigured HANA instance to create their data analysis application, as well as access a host of third-party development tools already available on AWS.
