The i’s are dotted, the t’s are crossed, and the merger between data center service provider SoftLayer and hosting specialist The Planet is finalized. The combined companies, known as SoftLayer, are now merging operations into a single business. Here are the potential implications for channel partners and customers.According to the latest statement from SoftLayer:
Customers can access The Planet accounts and services through the same control panels they’ve been using.
But customers also have the option of logging into the SoftLayer Customer Portal with the same information, and switch between the two at will without signing up.
New services will only be offered through the SoftLayer platform.
Existing The Planet customers can migrate to the SoftLayer platform at their leisure.
And perhaps most tellingly of all, The Planet’s Twitter account has renamed itself to “SoftLayer_News.” But overall, it seems like the takeaway that SoftLayer executives are going for is that it’s all business as usual in their corner of the hosting services market.
