There’s no shortage of unified communications (UC) and telepresence offerings in the market for SMBs, the latest of which is an integrated solution from Vidyo and Mitel, combining Vidyo’s HD, multipoint video communications solution with Mitel’s unified communications and collaboration (UCC) platform.

Through a single cloud-ready software stream, Mitel’s Freedom architecture provides flexibility and simplicity for businesses with limited IT resources. The company offers a suite of mobility solutions to deliver unified communications and collaboration capabilities to the mobile devices or tablets of choice, an important capability for any business considering bring your own device (BYOD) initiatives.

Vidyo’s customizable, software-based UC platform, based on VidyoRouter architecture, employs Adaptive Video Layering, which optimizes the video for each endpoint, leveraging H.264 Scalable Video Coding (SVC)-based compression technology.

During a videoconference, Vidyo’s core technology continuously monitors the performance of the underlying network and the capabilities of each endpoint device, and adapts video streams in real time to optimize video communication. The company also has accumulated an impressive list of platform partners, including Ricoh (NASDAQ: RICOY), Google (NASDAQ: GOOG), Hitachi, Teliris and Intel (NASDAQ: INTC).

The integrated solution from Mitel and Vidyo is aimed at small businesses looking to deploy on-demand unified communications and visual collaboration solutions on desktops, mobile devices and conference rooms.

Mitel’s vice president of marketing and business development Stephen Beamish said delivering an integrated high-definition videoconferencing solution was a priority for their partners and customers.

“Vidyo delivers a virtualized video solution that meshes perfectly with our vision of an integrated UC platform and, when combined with Mitel UC, will provide our customers with the freedom to select high quality video applications without traditional limitations,” he said in a press statement.
