Qubole, the big-data-as-a-service company, on Monday launched its Cloudera Migration Program aimed at helping enterprises expand their use of big big data in the cloud.

Qubole's Ashish ThusooAs part of the program, Qubole has partnered with WANdisco to create a transition for customers migrating data and analytics to the cloud.

Ashish Thusoo, Qubole’s co-founder and CEO, tells Channel Partners the migration program and WANdisco partnership will provide his company’s partners with “more opportunity and more ways to work together.” It partners with SIs such as Agile iSS, ClearShark, Azumo and DesignMind.

“Partners will now have a way to engage companies who have done their initial big-data deployments on premises (with Cloudera) but are now facing the complexity and cost implications of expanding their use of big data,” he said. “This is a packaged solution which makes it fast and easy to move to the cloud. As we grow the program, partners who want and have the capability to perform the professional-services component will be able to take that on.”{ad}

The migration program is a packaged offering that includes: the Qubole Data Platform on AWS to run data processing workloads on Hadoop, Spark, Presto or HBase; WANdisco Fusion to enable active data replication from on-premises to AWS S3; and professional services for scoping, planning, design and migration of on-premises Cloudera deployments.

“Today, partners would have to assemble a solution offering themselves and deal with the resulting integration, support and contractual complexities,” Thusoo said. “The Cloudera migration program simplifies all of these challenges and allows partners to focus on helping their customer achieve the benefits of cloud deployment.”

The migration program is designed for companies that initially deployed Cloudera Express, Cloudera Enterprise or CDH on-premises and now want a “quick and easy way to leverage the massive economies of scale offered by cloud,” according to Qubole.

The biggest challenges to cloud migration have been the downtime, potential data loss and resulting business disruption that often come with it,” said James Campigli, WANdisco’s co-founder and COO. “WANdisco’s patented active-transactional replication technology offers the only solution that overcomes these challenges.”
