tw telecom Makes Network, Cloud, Big Data Announcements

There’s a lot happening at tw telecom, the Colorado-based provider of business Ethernet and networking solutions, which is expanding its fiber network on a regular basis.

The company on Tuesday announced what it calls an industry-first capability that gives users the ability to control network class-of-service implementations on demand, in real time, dynamically across its IP VPN and managed services. The capability allows customers to prioritize their applications according to rapidly changing business needs and immediately adjust class-of-service priorities to meet those applications requirements.

The company’s Dynamic Prioritization capability is a new feature of its Intelligent Network that frees users from outdated, static industry processes that force companies to pre-determine their application priorities and write service orders, waiting days or weeks before required changes are implemented. With Dynamic Prioritization, tw telecom says it provides its customers comprehensive Intelligent Network capabilities to enhance and expand their network prioritization with real-time control in support of IT applications across a secure and scalable network, with no downtime.

On Wednesday, tw telecom announced that it will provide seamless and direct access to multiple cloud services and providers on the Equinix Cloud Exchange in all U.S. locations. It’s also directly connected or interconnected in nearly 40 Equinix data centers across the United States. This offering, the companies say, gives enterprises better, faster, easier access to Equinix’s cloud ecosystem through tw telecom’s business Ethernet connections.

The Equinix Cloud Exchange is an advanced interconnection solution that enables seamless, on-demand and direct access to multiple clouds and multiple networks across the globe. Businesses can join the Equinix Cloud Exchange in 13 global markets, with expansion planned to a total of 19 markets by the end of 2014.

Also Wednesday, tw telecom and GoGrid, a provider of Open Data Services featuring purpose-built infrastructure for big data, announced a relationship to provide a scalable, elastic and private infrastructure for companies seeking to deploy an open-source, big-data solution in the cloud.

tw telecom will deploy its eLynk private data service solution that securely connects multiple end-user businesses to and through the data center to one centralized cloud or application provider. eLynk will integrate directly with the GoGrid platform via Cloud Bridge, GoGrid’s private connectivity offering, to create a direct, highly scalable and secure Ethernet connection to the GoGrid big data and cloud platform.

tw telecom says it simplifies this connection by managing all aspects of the connectivity on behalf of the customer and alleviates the challenges of managing multiple vendors to establish cloud connections while simultaneously eliminating costs customers encounter traversing the data center.
