If you’re a VAR working the security scene with Tech Data, there’s a new weapon in your arsenal. Arbor Networks has partnered with Tech Data to provide on-premise DDoS protection with the Pravail Availability Protection System (APS). Here’s the scoop on the technology and the new distribution agreement …

First off, you’re probably wondering what Arbor Networks’ Pravail APS does. The Pravail appliance sits outside the firewall and is designed to prevent against a variety of ‘edge’-related Internet threats, with DDoS attacks being one of its specialties. Pravail APS also protects against application-layer attacks, which can often overwhelm existing enterprise data center protection resources. By sitting outside the firewall on the ‘edge’ of the Internet, APS can also protect against botnet attacks and various other Internet threats as they evolve.

Tech Data’s partnership with Arbor Networks comes at a time when Tech Data has seen a real demand from high-level VARs building out robust enterprise security solutions. Tech Data and Arbor Networks both have a huge base of resellers (Arbor boasts 60,000), and with Tech data now providing an added swath of resellers and collaborative channel partnerships, VARs working enterprise security spaces have a lot more options when approaching customers.

Both Arbor and Tech Data believe that the Pravail APS will also help enterprise move to adopting cloud computing, since the appliance can mitigate many fears about security issues. Bonus: For your viewing pleasure, Arbor Networks also has a YouTube channel to explain the APS technology.
