Mobile security provider Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT) introduced new versions of its FortiClient application for iOS and Android platforms to address BYOD, or "bring your own device," challenges by protecting organizations through controlling user behavior in the network, authenticating devices and restricting data access rights. Mobile security provider Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT) introduced new versions of its FortiClient application for iOS and Android platforms to address BYOD, or “bring your own device,” challenges by protecting organizations through controlling user behavior in the network, authenticating devices and restricting data access rights. Here’s the scoop.

The updated clients are available for Android and iOS platforms through iTunes and Google Play. Android platforms support both SSL tunnel mode and IPSec VPN connections to FortiGate appliances. The iOS solution adds Web-mode SSL VPN functionality and has been modified for the iPad platform.

The company built its protection around six key differentiating capabilities including the following:

  • A wide range of deployment options supporting LAN and WAN

  • The ability to add new devices to the network without additional license fees, (due to lack of ‘per-user’ or ‘per-seat’ licensing)

  • Centralized management

  • Integrated wireless control in all All FortiGate appliances

  • Built-in WiF for LAN deployments to reduce the need for a separate wireless access point

  • Two-factor authentication through mobile VPN clients and interoperable soft-tokens.
