Appia Communications announced Monday that it is offering virtual PBX services, enabling customers to install and manage their own phone systems on a secure Appia virtual machine.

Initially Appia will support the 3CX Phone System for Windows, a software-based IP PBX that replaces a proprietary hardware PBX/PABX. 3CXs IP PBX has been developed specifically for Microsoft Windows and is based on the SIP standard, allowing it to be used with any SIP phone (software or hardware).

“This is perfect for customers who want to manage their own PBXs, but who also want the security and disaster recovery capabilities of the Appia cloud,” said Victor von Schlegell, president of Appia Communications. “Along with the virtual PBX, they get to choose their Appia SIP trunks and phone handsets.”

WIth the addition, Appia now offers phone systems on premises, on a virual machine, as a server in the Appia data center or as a hosted service.

Headquartered in Traverse City, Mich., Appia serves markets nationwide, with operations in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, and Washington D.C.
