Bell Atlantic Merges 2 Wholesale Organizations

New York-based Bell Atlantic Corp. merged its carrier services and telecom industry
services (TIS) groups Sept. 1. The regional Bell operating company (RBOC) decided on the
consolidation to enhance the level of service to its wholesale customers and to improve
efficiency.

The two units are part of the company’s network services organization. Carrier services
provides access and billing services to carriers, while TIS serves wireless carriers,
resellers, competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs), payphone providers and independent
LECs.

Pat Hanley, the current president of Bell Atlantic Carrier Services, will head the new
combined organization, which will have about 700 employees. Jack Goldberg, the president
of TIS, will become vice president for strategy and business development for network
services.
